Connectivity
A piece of work should be able to connect to its appropriate audience and have a specific intention behind it portraying a clear meaning and sense of originality. Although, within today's society a lot of intention behind the work is based on past influences and work that has already been created. Therefore we question originality. Most artists or designers challenge the original idea and reinvent the piece in a different form. The meaning of the idea behind the piece has not been copied or stolen but developed to suit a modern day audience. I believe the process is an on going cycle. Every artist is inspired by existing work. From this an artist naturally picks up ideas putting them into their own style and form. The more we investigate, the more we discover about the piece. We are able to identify its original meaning and how it has been developed to give the next artist inspiration. If we do not know its meaning, as an audience we are unable to identify some of the elements used.
Christo's environmental works of art have been re-contextualised into a current form by photographer David LaChapelle. Christo's idea has been recognised, investigated and developed into a piece with a different interpretation. The house in the background has been covered with a similar texture and draped in a fuchsia pink to match the girls dresses in the foreground. He has re-constructed Christo's idea of wrapped buildings to form and represent a stronger understanding and relationship between the girls and their house.
